Honda CR-V vs Toyota RAV4: Exterior
In terms of the exterior design, it is undoubtedly stated that the new sharp lines have brought a unique sporty look to the Toyota Rav4. Meanwhile, the beautiful curves give a subtle allure to the Honda CR-V crossover.
While not pursuing a sporty style, the CR-V’s latest generation retains the same 4-wheel drive system and optional Modulo accessory for the front. Simultaneously, Toyota has removed the all-wheel-drive on the RAV4 and equips its front with a pair of roof rails.
Both crossovers use the same suspension system with MacPherson struts at the front, and at the rear, there's a double swing bar and multi-link suspension.
In terms of size, the two cars have the same width of 1,855mm. However, the RAV4 2021 is slightly larger than that of Toyota with 29 mm longer in length, 173 mm taller, and 65 mm longer in wheelbase.
The inner space of both crossovers is quite large and comfortable for passengers. While the interior design of the RAV4 is angled to match the car's sporty spirit, the Honda CR-V possesses a sophisticated, luxurious design that matches its exterior.
A power liftgate and navigation-ready infotainment system are the two most outstanding Honda CR-V features that enhance its convenience advantages. Moreover, the Honda Sensing safety system is also significantly preferred by many drivers compared to Toyota’s competitor.
Although both models have an 8-way adjustable seat for the driver, the CR-V’s is a bit superior with a 4-way power-adjustable lumbar support.
On the other hand, the Toyota RAV4’s infotainment system is smaller but seems to be more complicated. While the CR-V only has a basic system with a 7-inch touchscreen with HDMI and 8-speakers, Toyota equips RAV-4 with a Display Audio screen with CD, DVD, MP3 connection, and 6-Speakers. Not only being equipped with an entertainment connection of AUX, Bluetooth, USB like the CR-V's at a basic level, the RAV-4 also comes with T-Link for iOS & Android.

Although both models originate from the same manufacturing era and the same country, the CR-V has switched to a diesel engine while the RAV4 still uses a gasoline one.
Under the hood of the Toyota RAV4 is a 2.5-liter Dual-VVTi A25A-FKS inline-4 petrol engine.
Being more powerful than the previous generation’s, the RAV4 engine can reach up to 203 horsepower with 243 Nm of torque. RAV-4’s Eco mode does not give out a maximum speed but can reduce fuel consumption effectively, while the Sport mode can excellently exert the engine’s power.
On the other hand, the CR-V uses a 1.6-liter N16 i-DTEC four turbocharged diesel engine. The engine's 118 bhp capacity is smaller than that of the RAV4, but it can reach 300 Nm of power, so it is also greater compared to the RAV4’s.
Although the power is not as excellent as the RAV4, the CR-V still offers a comfortable, quiet, and stable ride for commuters.
In terms of fuel economy, the average fuel consumption of the Honda CR-V is 17 km/L. On the other hand, the Toyota RAV4 achieves 7.6 km/L consumption in city traffic and 12 km/L on the highway.
Both crossovers have basic safety systems with airbags, anti-lock brakes, and parking sensor systems. However, Honda has decided to outpace its rival with lots of outstanding features.
CR-V stands out with the speed sensor door lock and Honda Sensing accessory technology. The tech suite includes Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Road departure mitigation.
In the future, the Toyota fans hope that Toyota will add the exclusive Toyota Safety Sense in the updated version of the RAV4 to compete equally with the competition.
