As you may know, the LTO temporary plate format for motorcycles and for tricycles is different. Of course, the temporary plate number still includes the dealer name and the region - the place of registration. 

In addition, motorbikes with temporary license plates must have the word "registered" above and their conduction number in the middle of the plate. It is a common model for most motorcycles and tricycles when using temporary license plates.

  • The name of the dealer: located at the ends of the plate.

  • The region and MV file number: located below.

All sizes of the temporary plate number need to be in compliance with a standard dimension, which is mentioned in the LTO Memorandum (issued January 2017).

For motor vehicles, the length should be about 20 inches, and the width should be about 4.5 inches. However, there is a difference with motorbikes. The length of the motorcycle plate should be longer, while the width should be shorter.

According to the font to be used in temporary plate number in the Philippines, LTO said it would be Arial Black. This is the most popular font and is more readable than the others. And of course, you can also easily read them even when the car is moving on the road.

Also, in another LTO memorandum, the department heads and staff members involved were reminded about conduction sticker numbers that could be used as temporary plate number in the Philippines.

On the other hand, the memorandum also states that the temporary license plate should meet the requirements of private emissions testing centers. 

In addition, if you have already shown your vehicle registration certificate, official receipt, and temporary license plate, you may not need to verify the certification from the owner of the motorcycle or motor vehicle.

For new car owners, you should be aware of the following precautions if you want to register the temporary plate number in the Philippines.

First of all, if you purchased and registered a vehicle after 2016, your license plate may have been issued by the LTO office or the dealerships where you registered. However, keep in mind that when you buy a car and register it before 2016, it may take longer to wait for new license plates. This is being considered by the court and will be officially announced from the LTO.

Secondly, the vanity plates are not available at the registration of the license plate. We know a lot of drivers in the Philippines do not care about this, while a few people like them because of its uniqueness. However, the LTO has temporarily suspended the registration of the vanity plates since late 2017, as that is not a priority.

The next thing we want to say is that you cannot drive without a LTO vehicle registration or license plate. This is under the LTO policy. In addition, you will not be able to use your vehicle when the vehicle registration has expired.
